What Pop Fiction can tell us about our World

I'm starting a new blog series on pop fiction. Hopefully in the days and weeks, to come I will be posting blogs on what pop fiction can tell us about our world. I say hopefully because I do not have a great track record on blogging regularly.

This series will feature blogs on a number of topics from monetary policy, Iraq, big government and much more. These topics will be discussed by using popular fiction. Not only books, but movies and TV shows as well. Harry Potter, Star Wars and BSG will be some of the pop fiction looked at. I know that not all the blogs will be discussing new ideas from these works, but I hope that a few will and the ones that do not will still offer something of interest. In case you are not interested yet, I will give you a preview of a few of the titles. Harry Potter and the Fiat Galleon. Ewoks and the Taliban. Hopefully these titles will interest you.

Feel free to comment on this or any blog. It is nice to know I have some readers.

The Fight to Save Online Poker

Over the past few months I have been discussing Poker. We have looked at Poker today and in the passed. So why, have I been writing about this. Is it because I like to play Poker… well that is true, but that is not the only reason why. I’m writing about Poker because the government of United States is trying to increase regulation on online Poker. There are different pieces of legislation in different phases on this topic. Some may say what is the big deal? The big deal is clear. The internet is one of the few places were government regulation does not domination our lives. Online Poker unlike in person Poker is not highly regulated. In some states playing poker outside of government controlled areas is all but illegal. The question is why does the government think they need to regulate these things. Why do they think they need to tell us what we can and can not do? Adults should have the right to play Poker online. Online poker has become a front line battle field in the fight against government regulation and interference in your life. So ask your politicians were they stand on online poker. It will give you a clue to their general feelings on government regulation. So look for politicians who support online poker. For this is more that a fight over the right to go all-in with the nut flush, it is a battle for freedom and individual rights.
